Only the 10,000 yen bill was changed for the first time in 40 years.
Yukichi Fukuzawa → Eiichi Shibusawa (The father of modern Japanese economics, a businessman who is said to have been involved in the establishment of as many as 500 companies during his lifetime.)
The 5,000-yen bill is
Inazo Nitobe → Ichiyo Higuchi → Umeko Tsuda ( one of the first female students in Japan and an educator who founded the Women’s English Language School, now Tsuda College )
The 1,000-yen bill is
Soseki Natsume → Hideyo Noguchi → Shibasaburo Kitasato ( Bacteriologist who succeeded in the world’s first pure culture of tetanus bacteria and founded the private Kitasato Institute )
Also, the new bills are made with 3D holograms, and when the bill is tilted, the portrait rotates from left to right!

Amazing technology!
Yes, sir.
We are told that this is the first bill in the world to use this technology!

It is a masterpiece by Katsushika Hokusai, an ukiyoe artist of the Edo period, where we lived!
It is a very famous work even in modern Japan.
In conjunction with the issuance of the new currency bills, a Kyoto-based rice cracker shop is selling Kaki Mochi (Japanese cracker cake) named after the new currency bills!
Sozen, a confectioner located in Nishijin, Kyoto, is selling Kaki Mochi, a commemorative oyster cake made with new banknotes!
The traditional unglazed Kaki Mochi is decorated with a hood print of new money.
