 Matcha (green tea)?

I came from the Edo period (1603-1868), when the Uji method of tea production was developed to produce green tea from brown.

Until then, people drank brown tea made from roasted tea leaves, but green tea made by this method had a much stronger aroma and taste.

That is why green tea became so popular.

Green tea spread all over Japan.

I see!

Yes.

In the late Edo period (1603-1868), a tea merchant in Edo, Kahei Yamamoto, produced gyokuro, a more luxurious version of the traditional green tea.

 Gyokuro gradually spread throughout Japan.

Tea has a long history.

Now, back to the story!
