Dear Mr. Saru and Princess Usa,
Today we would like to pick cherries at Agri Park Ryuoh, a roadside station in Ryuoh Town, Shiga Prefecture, which is in season right now.
(SARUDONO)
Cherries!
We came to Japan from the Edo period (1603-1867), when a type of cherry called the Karami zakura came to Japan from China.
(USAHIME)
This is so sour, sour!
(SARUDONO)
The kind of cherry trees that Japanese people eat today is the cherry tree called “seiyoumizakura,” .
And at that time, the cherry tree called “karami zakura” had a very sour taste.
So it didn’t become popular.
That’s right.
The Japanese cherry trees that we eat today were first cultivated in Japan in earnest during the Meiji Era.
So, Sarudono and Usahime are experiencing sweet cherries for the first time today!♪
(SARUDONO)
That’ right!
(USAHIME)
I’m looking forward to it♪
Now, let’s go cherry picking!
Time limit is 30 minutes!
Please enjoy them as much as you like.

Crunch, crunch, crunch.
(SARUDONO)
Mmmm, this is sweet and delicious!
What kind is it?
Yes, Sarudono.
This is a variety called “Kouka-nishiki.
(USAHIME)
Dad, we have a different kind of cherry here.
Usahime, your variety is called Takasago.
(USAHIME)
Is that so?
Different varieties have different flavors♪
(SARUDONO)
It’s fun to compare different kinds of cherries♪
Yes, Agri-Park Ryuoh’s cherry orchard is one of the largest in the Kinki region.
They have four cherry orchards with a total of over 400 cherry trees!
(SARUDONO)
That’s right.
But still, I ate a lot!
I’m full!
(USAHIME)
I am full, too!
I can’t eat any more!
I see…
Afterwards, I thought we would have Omi beef at the barbecue in the park・・・
(SARUDONO)
What? Meat!?
I’m getting hungry!
(USAHIME)
Let’s go to the barbecue place now!
Ha, yes…
Yes, sir!
