Are you interested in Japan’s national sport, Sumo?
(sarudono)
Of course!
I have been around since the Edo period (1603-1867),
Sumo was a popular pastime for the townspeople even in the Edo period.
In those days, sumo was divided into two types of seating, the “Doma” seats and the “Sajiki” seats.
The fees for watching sumo were
Doma seat → 3 monme ( about 4,000 yen in today’s value )
Sajiki seat → 43 monme ( about 57,333 yen in today’s value )
It was a slightly extravagant form of entertainment.
I see.
Even today, interest in sumo is high.
Next week, Thursday, May 30th
