Yesterday, I told you about Hachiman-jaya,
I have searched for a place where you can eat warabi-mochi, which is different from Hachiman-jaya!
(SARUDONO)
Good!
The St. Regis Bar on the 12th floor of the St. Regis Hotel Osaka,
located near Honmachi Station on the Midosuji Line in Osaka,
has collaborated with the famous Japanese confectionery store TANEYA.
And they offer the limited-time St. Regis Afternoon Tea with TANEYA.
(SARUDONO)
Oh.
Is a Japanese sweets shop called Taneya famous?
Yes, Saru-dono.
Taneya is a Japanese confectionery with a long history,
founded in the Meiji Era and headquartered in Omi Hachiman, Shiga Prefecture.
And, they have many stores all over the country!
As many of you may know,
Taneya’s western confectionery division is Club Harrier,
very famous for its baumkuchen.
(SARUDONO)
I came from Edo period, at that time, there was no such confectionery as baumkuchen.
That’s new news to me!
Yes, Saru-dono.
Baumkuchen was born in Germany,
It came to Japan around the time of World War I.
Carl Euheim, the founder of Euheim, also famous for his baumkuchen,
was brought to Japan as a prisoner of war.
And he baked baumkuchen at the Hiroshima Prefectural Products Exhibition Hall.
So baumkuchen was not available in the Edo period when Mr. Sarudono was in Japan.
(SARUDONO)
Sure!
Back to afternoon tea.
The contents of the afternoon tea include fresh cold ice with the scent of the St. Regis iconic rose, fresh dorayaki with the Taneya logo, and a three-tiered stack of fresh sweets and o-hagi.
Matcha scones made with matcha green tea and kanoko beans from Tsuchiyama, Shiga Prefecture, which are used at Taneya etc…
There are so many delicious-looking sweets!
Among them, the most noteworthy is the Warabi Mochi!
Sarudono,
do you know how long these warabi mochi will last?
(SARUDONO)
Hmmm.
Five hours… or something?
Boo!
It’s a miss!
What a surprise! It has a shelf life of one minute!
It’s only one minute!
I can’t believe it!
Warabi mochi is served in a champagne glass, very stylish.
The Warabi-mochi is made of Japanese warabi flour.
You can enjoy the warabi^mochi in a store designed in the image of the Azuchi-Momoyama period.
How about it, Sarudono?
(SARUDONO)
A battle with warabimochi!
I want to try!!
