Do you like ayu fish, SARUDONO and USAHIME?
(SARUDONO)
Of course!
Even in the Edo period (1603-1867), when we came from, we often ate ayu.
Young ayu in early summer, sweetfish in autumn… Namasu, soup, sashimi, sushi, kamaboko, and so on.
Sushi, sir?
(SARUDONO)
That’s right!
Ayu-zushi (sweetfish sushi) was the most popular of all sweetfish dishes among people in the olden days.
Even Minamoto no Yoritomo and Oda Nobunaga are said to have enjoyed ayu-zushi.
We have been coming here since the Edo period (1603-1867), and at that time, ayu-zushi was a gift from the Owari clan and was distributed to the shogunate and other clans.
(USAHIME)
In the Edo period (1603-1867), ayu fish from the Tama River was a brand name.
The 8th shogun, Yoshimune Tokugawa, designated the Tama River as Otomegawa and decreed that only the shoguns were allowed to take ayu, so that they could enjoy the ayu caught in the Tama River all to themselves.
I see…
Speaking of ayu fish, I like grilled one.
Oh, yes, the ayu fish・・・
