Sarudo, have you ever heard of Yumeji Takehisa?
(SARUDONO)
I don’t know.
Who is he ?
Takehisa Yumeji is a Japanese painter representative of the Taisho Romantic era.
He was sometimes called the “Ukiyoe master of the Taisho period”
and left behind many beautiful women paintings full of emotion,
called “Yumeji-style beauties.
(SARUDONO)
Oh.
Paintings of beautiful women, huh?
They were popular even in the Edo period when I came here.
Hishikawa Moronobu‘s “The Beauty with a Turn of the Head” and Kitagawa Utamaro‘s “Woman Blowing a Beadloop” are also famous.
It’s very nice!
Takehisa Yumeji not only painted beautiful women,
but also illustrated children’s magazines and poems,
and wrote poems and children’s stories.
The poem “Yoimachigusa” written by Takehisa Yumeji was set to music
and became popular as a popular song, which spread throughout the country!
(SARUDONO)
He’s doing very well!
Yes, Sarudono!
That’s not all that Takehisa Yumeji accomplished!
He also designed many book bindings, advertising materials,
daily necessities, and even yukata (summer kimonos)!
(SARUDONO)
What?
That’s brilliant!
Let him take his prize!
Yes, yes…
But, Sarudono,
unfortunately, he passed away a long time ago…
(SARUDONO)
Well, that’s a pity.
Yes.
But, the works left behind by Takehisa Yumeji are on display at the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum from June 1.
About 180 works are on display!
Among them, there is a masterpiece “Amaryllis” from the mid Taisho period,
which has been missing for many years!
This is the first time it’s been discovered and displayed in public!
This is very valuable, Sarudono!
The store also sells chocolates decorated with Edo chiyogami paper,
kimono patterns, and other modern designs by Takehisa Yumeji, called chiyochoko.
What’s more!
At the cafe in the new building,
you can enjoy the retro and nostalgic Classic Pudding (900 yen)
and the adult-flavored Cream Soda (900 yen) with melon and fresh lemon flavor!
This is the only way to go!
(SARUDONO)
OK.
What are the details?
Yes.
